Three Card Poker begins with you placing an Ante bet. The dealer then hands you three face-down cards; the house dealer receives three cards as well. Your decision follows immediately: fold your Ante and exit the hand, or place a Play bet equal to your Ante to continue. If you Play, both hands are revealed and compared using poker hand rankings.
Hand strength in Three Card Poker runs from highest to lowest: straight flush (three suited cards in sequence), three of a kind (trips), straight (three cards in sequence regardless of suit), flush (three cards of the same suit), pair, and high card. If your hand beats the dealer's, both your Ante and Play bets are paid even money. If the dealer's hand wins, you lose both bets. A tie on the Ante results in a push (your bet returns); your Play bet still loses.
A key rule: the dealer must qualify with Queen-high or better. If the dealer's hand fails to qualify, your Ante is paid even money and your Play bet pushes (you get your stake back). This qualification rule softens dealer wins and creates opportunities where you win even if your hand is weak, as long as the dealer busts below Queen-high.

Basic strategy for Three Card Poker
Strategy in Three Card Poker centres on one question: should you Play or fold? The answer depends on the strength of your hand relative to the dealer qualification threshold (Queen-high).
A simple approach: always Play with a Queen or better. This hand beats any hand the dealer needs for qualification, so you win the Ante immediately if the dealer does not qualify. If the dealer qualifies and your hand ranks lower, you lose only because the dealer's hand is stronger—not because of a qualification miss. Hands below Queen-high (King-low, Jack-low, etc.) are fold candidates, especially if your hand contains no straight-flush potential.
For hands in the middle—pairs and low straights—the calculation becomes granular. A pair always beats a high card, so a pair below Queen-high is often worth a Play bet, as you win if the dealer fails to qualify. A straight or flush is almost always a Play bet because these hands rank high and are unlikely to lose to the dealer once you both reveal.
We recommend playing Queen or better as your floor. Below that threshold, evaluate whether your hand can win the Ante via dealer bust, and whether it contains straight or flush potential.
